Two brothers will offer their takes on battling climate change in their respective professions during a free presentation Thursday at the Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design.

One of the siblings is Joshua Gassman, lead architect of the Kendeda Building. At building director Shan Arora’s suggestion, Gassman invited his brother, Seth, to join him for what is being billed as a “a transdisciplinary discussion on how buildings can give back more resources than they consume, and how the legal profession can use novel strategies to pressure governments into climate action.”

Seth, a San Francisco attorney, has experience with environmental justice cases, and according to the session description “will provide his perspective on the work he and his firm, Hausfeld LLP, do in the legal arena to fight climate change.

“The idea is to discuss how we (as a society) are trying to stave off the worst of climate change and to show that we are all fighting the same fight,” Joshua, who is sustainable design director at Lord Aeck Sargent in Atlanta, wrote in an email. “We need everyone involved, regardless of what you do for a living. This is not just a built environment problem, or just a legal problem, or just a policy problem.”

Climate Crisis, Buildings and Law will take place 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Kendeda Building, 422 Ferst Drive on the Georgia Tech campus. Although the event is free, attendees are asked to register here.
