Kendeda Building dedication and open house tomorrow

Open House

Tomorrow’s a big day for the Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design.

At 9:30 am, Georgia Tech President Angel Cabrera and other dignitaries will speak at an invitation-only dedication of the building.

That will be followed by an 11 am-2 pm open house, which will feature tours of the building by project team members. This is a great opportunity design and construction professionals to hear how their colleagues worked through one of the most complex Living Building Challenge projects yet.

Here’s the schedule of tours and their leaders. Each tour takes approximately 45 minutes.

  • 11:00 a.m. with Todd Mowinski, partner, Newcomb & Boyd, and mechanical engineer on the project,
  • 11:00 a.m. with Joshua Gassman, sustainable design director, Lord Aeck Sargent, and leader of the Kendeda Building design team.
  • 11:30 a.m. with John DuCongé, senior project manager, Facilities Management, Georgia Tech, who oversaw construction on behalf of the university.
  • 11:30 a.m. with Jimmy Mitchell, director of project solutions, Skanska USA, and sustainable lead for the general contractor
  • Noon with Alissa Kingsley, associate, Lord Aeck Sargent, and an architect of the design team
  • 12:30 p.m. with Mariá Ceballos, architect, Facilities Management, Georgia Tech, who managed signage and other visual design issues for the owner.
  • 1:00 p.m. with Marlon Ellis, area maintenance manager, Facilities Management, Georgia Tech, who is now in charge of the building’s operations.

Attendees are encouraged to take public transit to open house and to RSVP. According to the university, hourly visitor parking is available at Visitor Parking Areas 4 and 5.
